Sterling silver rings making process

Creating sterling silver signet rings and pendants is perhaps the most artistic endeavor in our Spirit Workshop.

Creating sterling silver signet rings and pendants is perhaps the most artistic endeavor in our Spirit Workshop. While we cherish every piece we craft, the process of making sterling silver jewelry is undoubtedly the most intricate and challenging of all our creations.

The Process:

  1. Wax Model Creation: Our journey begins with crafting precise wax models. This step is crucial, as any mistakes made during this process will prevent the ring or pendant from being properly completed during casting. We devote significant time and focus to ensuring the accuracy of these wax models, as they serve as the foundation for the final piece.

  2. Preparing the Flask: Once the wax models are perfected, we carefully position them inside a flask and pour a gypsum mass around them. This mixture will harden, capturing every detail of the wax models.

  3. Removing the Wax: After the gypsum has set and hardened, we place the flask into a special furnace, where it is subjected to temperatures of 800°C for approximately 12 hours. This process burns off the wax, leaving a void in the gypsum that mirrors our intricate design.

  4. Casting the Silver: After the wax has been fully eliminated, we melt sterling silver to 1200°C. This molten metal is then poured into the flask, filling the cavity left by the wax model.

  5. Cooling and Revealing: After allowing the metal to set for about 15 minutes, we plunge the hot flask into water. This sudden change causes the gypsum mass to explode, revealing our silver signet rings and pendants.

  6. Final Touches: With the initial casting complete, we meticulously hand-shape each piece to achieve its final form. This stage is both time-consuming and requires great attention to detail, as each ring and pendant comes to life through careful finishing.

Though the process is long and often challenging, the result is worth every moment. Each piece of jewelry we create tells a unique story, reflecting our dedication to artistry and craftsmanship. Your sterling silver signet rings and pendants are more than mere adornments: they are a testament to the labor of love that goes into every creation in our workshop.
